The holiday season in the US is usually filled with activities surrounding Christmas and presents. However, as Muslims, we do not celebrate Christmas. We have decided that presents etc will be part of our Eid festivities. Both Eids are celebrated according to the Lunar calendar, so the date varies a lot.
Celebrating 25 December, Pakistan style
Hence, I came up with the notion of introducing another holiday that we celebrate in Pakistan, which happens to be on the same day as Christmas every year. Quaid-e-Azam day celebrates the birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, who is considered the founder of Pakistan.
This year, I was looking to make it a day to talk about him and his life as a Political figure. Since my daughter is in Kindergarten, I was looking for activities that would impart a few facts in a play-based format.
Diving into the fun part
Sadly, I did not find any that were available online. So, as a mom of course I had to come up with my own.
Although the library is free to access for those who subscribe, I felt that this was a topic I would love to see being shared more widely even for non-subscribers.
I have created these as printables so feel free to download and use with your kids.
Coloring page
I had a hard time finding a coloring page for kids, so I made this one. Please let me know how you like it.

Learning about his life
Since there is no children’s level book about Quaid-e-Azam’s life (maybe that’s an idea for another project), I am adding a link to a website with the facts about his life.
I found this website rekhta.com that has a lot of Urdu content. I found a link to an online Urdu book with some prominent events from his life. The Urdu text can be used as a challenge for kids who can spot some easy Urdu words, so totally worth a shot.
Series on Youtube about his vision
For younger kids, here is a link to a series on Youtube about Quaid’s Life called “Quaid se baatein” so please check it out as well.
Solve a puzzle
In this maze, you have to help Quaid -e-Azam reach Pakistan. Simply print it out and solve it. It is great for younger kids to exercise their brains and in the process learn a link between Quaid-e-Azam and Pakistan.
Play the game Bingo (Quaid-e-Azam edition)
Bingo is a fun game in which the players have to try and get the answers in a row to win.
I created this version in which important events from Quaid’s life are arranged in a grid as answers.
You need to print two files for this.
To print the Bingo cards click here
To print the answer sheet click here
Print the bingo cards (there are four of them) and the answer sheet.
Cut out each answer as a strip of paper and put those strips in a bag or box.
Randomly pull out one strip at a time for the players to answer and mark that answer on the Bingo card. For instance, if you pull out the strip that asks for his mother’s name, the players have to mark the block which says Mithibai.
Whoever gets four in a row wins.
You can also just play till you get all the answers or you can also make teams to do this.
It is a fun way to remember some facts about the Quaid’s life.
Unscramble this
I made one of his popular phrases into a scrambled word puzzle. This may not take too long but you can discuss what it means and ask kids to give examples of how they could display these characteristics.

Ending with an open Exercise
After learning about his life, I suggest doing a creative exercise with older kids..
This would include, asking them to write a letter to him discussing their opinion and giving them a chance to ask questions from their understanding. This will help with recollection and makes for a great conversation. You can use the link above to brush up before you do it.
Bonus download
I created Quaid-e-Azam theme bookmarks which are in the resource library.
Simply print them on sturdy cardstock and you can either use them as-is, or I prefer adding a small piece of ribbon as a tag through a hole in the top. (you can use a hole punch to do that).
To make it waterproof, simply add a layer of clear packing tape /scotch tape.
Tag me on instagram with your activities. I would love to see them!
Use the buttons below to share this with your family and friends who may be interested in these activities to celebrate December 25.
