Ramadan series Week Three quick activities

Before talking about the Ramadan series post, I want to talk about something important. This week was marked by a significant milestone in Justice for African Americans. It was a step towards reconciling the differences that prevent us from seeing the humanity in each other. I am hopeful that our children will be better at this.

My daughter is learning about these important things at school as well. I think we as parents ought to have a talk whenever we find an opportunity to discuss the differences we see. Children are the opportunity to change the future.

Coming back to Ramadan series, I have three activities for this week as well. The Youtube craft video is helping me improve my skills of editing. If you have not read the previous posts, here is the link to the week one and two posts.

Ramadan series craft week 3: Lantern suncatcher

Suncatchers are reflective surfaces that are usually made of glass. They reflect or ‘catch’ the sun, similar to what a wind chime does for wind. This suncatcher is made with paper and the idea is to place it in an area with a lot of sunlight, like a window so the images can be seen brightly.

I used some light colored tissue paper but you can use brightly colored pieces of paper or even just use markers to color the pieces of paper before placing them in the lantern.

What you need:

  • Lantern template (Click here)
  • Colorful paper with pencil
  • Scissors
  • Contact paper or clear transparent tape
  • Glue

Step -by -step instructions

Print out the template from the link above. Cut out the lantern and the window.

Trace it on a piece of patterned paper or colorful paper.

Cut out the window and stick pieces of scotch tape to cover the opening (as shown in the video)

Then place colorful piece of tissue paper to cover it.

Repeat it on another paper.

Stick the edges together.

Hang with tape or yarn over a window.

You can also make a banner with these for Eid. Kids will love to help.
